The Qualitative Research Network (QRN) at the Conference on College Composition & Communication (CCCC) began in the late 1980’s as the Qualitative Research Special Interest Group. In the early 1990’s, that Special Interest Group proposed a workshop for both experienced and novice researchers to discuss the theoretical, methodological, and ethical aspects of their research projects. Over the last twenty years, this workshop has become a regular feature each Wednesday afternoon at CCCC called the Qualitative Research Network.

Although open to all qualitative researchers, the QRN is particularly interested in mentoring graduate students pursuing qualitative projects on writing. The QRN is especially important for students and faculty at institutions without a large number of rhetoric and composition researchers and/or without colleagues who specialize in qualitative inquiry. In this sense, the QRN serves a vital mentoring function for newcomers to the field and a great learning opportunity for both experienced and new researchers alike.

The QRN is currently organized and chaired by Will Banks (banksw AT ecu DOT edu).
